Kyla + Mike // MARRIED Quamichan Lake, BC
I couldn't wait to walk in to this day.
I met Kyla + Mike last summer over Drumroaster's coffee shortly after she saw wedding photo's I did for her highschool classmates online. "We had to meet you right away!". What I found in that Cobble Hill coffee shop was two of the sweetest souls. Kindness, steadiness, nervous laughter and grace poured out of them during our brief coffee date. I knew that their wedding day would be nothing short of incredible. So we talked about how they met (Music Festival in Pemberton involving the Tragically Hip and first kisses), we talked details of their wedding day plans on a private property on Quamichan Lake, first looks and mountain top portraits where they got engaged in Maple Bay. We talked about their excitement to relocate back to Vancouver Island (last Winter) and the adventures they would have in Nicaragua. I knew I liked these two, the kind of couple I walk away from and think to myself "we should be friends".
These two are simple, straight shooters. After their first look that lasted all of 15 seconds before they were like "okay we are done". They wanted mountain top portraits...so we wrapped Kyla in a big sheet and jumped in their Kubota lovingly named "huddy". Mike drove literally UP the mountain and we hung on and rattled around in the back with our gear laughing all the way. Not only were the views spectacular there was an algae bloom in Maple Bay that delivered us some gorgeous turquoise waters, too PERFECT!
I'd never been down to Stamps Rd before. What did I see? Orchards, pastures, horses, egg stands, close knit friends, and even closer knit family being welcomed by hosts with hugs and smiles. Today was going to be a great day.
Lura McCallum officated a beautiful little ceremony for Kyla + Mike. Guests mingled in the gardens enjoying cocktail hour while we snapped away. A beautiful poolside setting and gorgeous decor for all to enjoy. As the evening carried on Kyla + Mike opened up the dance floor with their first dance to The Hip's Bobcaygeon.
This is a little glimpse of their wedding day photographs, and the day that I returned home with aching smile muscles. What an honour to be there. What an honour to know them. Meet Kyla + Mike at the start of their family story.
"So, I'm at your house this morning, Just a little after nine 'Cause, it was in Bobcaygeon Where I saw the constellations reveal themselves One star at time"
