Ashley + Dan // Married // Prince George, BC
This July took Meg + I to Prince George, BC for what may have quintessentially been the most beautiful designed wedding of the season! When Ashley contacted me last year she said "We are having a barn wedding Rustic/Chic style. Though the barn may be the only rustic part. No burlap, think chandeliers and silk instead". HELLO. BRING ON THE SILK!
We jumped in whole heartedly, and Ash + Dan did not disappoint. Every detail of their beautiful day was prepped by the Bride + Groom and their team. The old barn yard was transformed into a gorgeous venue for their wedding day and for all their guests to enjoy into the wee hours of the night.
After an emotional morning of getting ready. Ashley's Dad drove her to her home and she climbed out of the car to meet Dan who was waiting for her in their backyard. We captured a very sweet first look as the wedding party watched from inside A+D's living room. Pre-first look nerves melted away in to laughter and smiles as the wedding party joined us for portraits!
It has to be said that during the setup of the barn Dan was determined to cover the massive barn structure in a MASSIVE tarp! There was a 2% chance of rain and he wasn't about to take any risks on the gorgeous reception decor. His friends tried to tell him "don't worry, don't climb up on the roof it's dangerous, don't be crazy, it's hot, it's 2%". Dan wasn't having it. He and his friends covered that massive barn in tarps. AND WE ARE SURE GLAD HE DID. As we wrapped up their portraits the sky was dark navy and lightening was cracking in the distance. Guests took their seats in the second barn (yes 2 barns) and the bride and her father ducked into the barn as the skies opened up into a torrential down pour. Talk about a dramatic entrance! Not appearing to be rattled by the sudden change in weather Ashley looked stunning as she walked down the isle to Dan who was nothing but smiles as he waited for his bride. The rain poured down on the tin roof + the silks billowed in the draft creating an intimate and romantic, yes romantic atmosphere for a ceremony that none of us will soon forget.
The rain rolled on through Prince George and far away from us as the ceremony came to a close. Reception kicked off with great entertainment provided by DJ Kyle. Guests thoroughly enjoyed the delicious meal served up by the Hummus Brothers (who also supplied pulled pork sliders AND deep fried pickles (!!!) for the night snack.). Games, happy funny speeches, a wedding day sneak peek slide show and everyone was ready to hit the dance floor. Some unfortunate people actually ... hit ... the dance floor getting a little to gun-ho for the garter toss. eeeps! I love country weddings!
This wedding encompassed - community, family, purpose, nature, whimsy, and beauty. And despite the weather (oh my word, it was a little powerful), and despite my embarrassingly matted hair, this was a wedding that left me convinced of God’s goodness.
They love life, they love each other and they love others.
This is for you Ashley + Dan. We can’t thank you enough for the invitation and the way you showed grace and generosity to us throughout our stay in PG.
You are remarkable.
